U.S. Embassy Brings 25 English Teachers to Boost Education in Uzbekistan
The U.S. Embassy in Tashkent recently brought 25 American English language teachers to Uzbekistan for a 10-month training program. They will collaborate with local teachers to instruct students in schools ranging from 10th grade to university level, including English for speakers of other languages (TESOL). This group comprises 17 American English teachers and 8 experienced teachers (EL Fellows).
Fifteen of these American teachers are part of the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program by the U.S. State Department, while 2 are Embassy English language teachers continuing their work in Uzbekistan. These teachers hold master's degrees in TESOL or related fields and possess an average of 10 years of teaching experience.
These 25 teachers hail from various U.S. states, spanning California to Florida. They are actively supporting English language education in 11 regions of Uzbekistan and simultaneously serve as cultural ambassadors, fostering mutual understanding between the United States and Uzbekistan while showcasing best practices in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
The English language teaching initiatives launched by the U.S. Embassy in collaboration with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Preschool and School Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have received full support since 2019.
This effort is part of the U.S. government's broader commitment to bolster English language education in Uzbekistan, with over $28 million invested since 2018. This support encompasses the acquisition of high-quality English language textbooks for over 10,000 schools nationwide and training for 15,000 secondary school English language teachers.
