Uzbekistan allocates 115 billion soums for flood management

Uzbekistan has allocated 115 billion soums to ensure the safe management of floodwaters, prevent floods and water-related incidents. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations shared this information during a briefing at AOKA.

Uzbekistan faces a high risk of natural disasters and hazards due to its geographical and geological characteristics. To address this, various government departments routinely collaborate to assess and study flood and landslide-prone areas.

Based on these assessments, 5,127 citizens from 1,027 farms were temporarily relocated to safe zones, and 674 citizens from 137 farms were shielded from floods and floodwaters through effective engineering and protective measures.

In an effort to address the global issue of the Aral Sea crisis, Uzbekistan is actively working to create drought-resistant green areas covering 1.7 million hectares in the Aral Sea's dry basin. This initiative includes the establishment of tree groves and soil layer restoration to improve the current situation and mitigate the consequences of the Aral tragedy.
