UzAuto Motors plant opens in Azerbaijan

UzAuto Motors (Uzauto) and the SamAuto plant inaugurated a new factory in the Azerbaijani city of Hajigabul on September 17.

Uzauto said that the joint agreement with Azermash SR was concluded in July.

At the first stage of cooperation, Azermash SR is to produce Nexia and Cobalt models of Chevrolet, and later on, up to 5,000 units of Damas and Labo. The new plant will also assemble up to 1,000 SamAuto buses annually.

According to the official distributor of UzAuto Motors in Azerbaijan, the favorable ratio of price, functionality and quality in these models could be their unique competitive advantage.

"We have no doubt that the products of the new automobile plant will be popular among the population of Azerbaijan. The creation of a joint venture between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will allow, along with the Azerbaijani market, to enter such export markets as Georgia, Turkey and African countries," said Shavkat Umurzakov, the head of Uzavtosanoat.

Bo Andersson, CEO of UzAuto Motors, said that he was studying the possibility of adding new cars to the model range.

"We expect that in the near future, the range of new models will expand significantly and will include a wide range of attractive cars, from small and compact cars to large SUVs," he said.
