Italian President Visits Uzbekistan

Italian President Sergio Mattarella is set to depart on November 6 for a crucial visit to South Korea and Uzbekistan. The purpose is to strengthen Italy's engagement in Asia and enhance cooperation with these two key strategic partner countries.

Cooperation with Uzbekistan is vital for Italy due to its strategic location, serving as a historical link between Europe and the Far East, alongside major regional powers like Russia and China. In this context, Rome aims to support Uzbekistan in maintaining its independence and fostering ties with the Western world.

Italy and Uzbekistan are engaged in discussions covering investment protection, as well as scientific and cultural collaboration. On November 10, President Mattarella will meet with Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. Additionally, he will visit the Polytechnic University of Turin to assess opportunities for academic exchange and explore potential areas for economic and technological cooperation.

The visit will conclude on November 11 in Samarkand, where the Uzbek government is striving to establish a significant political and cultural hub. This includes collaborative efforts with the Italian archaeological mission.
