Uzbekistan and World Bank Forge Stronger Partnership for Development
On September 20, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Ajay Banga, the President of the World Bank Group in New York. They discussed expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank.
President Mirziyoyev congratulated Ajay Banga on his new role as President of the World Bank Group and expressed confidence that the bank, under his leadership, would continue to support economic development in developing countries.
They talked about increasing the bank's support in areas such as privatization, public administration efficiency, financing decarbonization, alternative energy, infrastructure, communications, and water supply projects. They also discussed attracting private investments, including public-private partnerships, and addressing issues related to the construction of the railway in Transafghan.
Ajay Banga praised Uzbekistan's reform program and expressed readiness to strengthen their partnership further. They agreed that the Bank's Advisory Council, composed of global business leaders, would help develop measures to increase direct investments in Uzbekistan.
