The national postal operator of Uzbekistan was forced to close its 1.3 thousand branches over the past five years. Last year, the national system accounted for only 10 percent of the 6,000 tons of parcels sent from abroad and 30 percent of courier services.
On October 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on reforming the national postal system. According to the state leader, despite possession of more than 2 thousand branches throughout the country, the state-controlled operator has been experiencing a weak demand in recent years.

Mirziyoyev gave instructions to establish a partnership with private operators. International transport companies operating in Uzbekistan do not have branches in the regions. If these opportunities would be used effectively, according to the President, it would be possible to arrange delivery to the final recipient.
– The main task of the postal sphere is to make the distant become close and the difficult become easy, – the President said.
Last year the national post operator held talks with the representatives of Italian Doxee S.P.A. The parties discussed the issue of phased modernization of Uzbekistan’s postal infrastructure through investment and innovation.
Representatives of Doxee expressed their readiness to assist in improving the efficiency of the postal service in Uzbekistan. As a first step, they proposed to implement the cloud-based Hybrid Mail platform and noted that the transfer of universal postal services to an electronic basis requires the necessary legal framework.
