Uzbekistan and Pakistan Strengthen Trade and Security Ties
Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met Acting Prime Minister of Pakistan Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 20.
They discussed strengthening Uzbekistan-Pakistan strategic partnership, particularly in trade, investment, and transportation. Both sides were pleased with the 75% increase in mutual trade and a 50% rise in cargo transportation this year. Additionally, 20 new joint ventures were established.
The President stressed the need to maintain favorable conditions for trade under the Preferential Trade Agreement. They identified potential areas for cooperation, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, and tourism.
The leaders also discussed regional security, especially the situation in Afghanistan, and emphasized the importance of working together on the Trans-Afghan railway construction.
